Major Land Resource Areas (MLRAs) are geographically associated land resource units, usually encompassing several thousand acres of land with similar soils, landforms, climate, and agricultural practices. A unit can be one continuous area or several separate nearby areas. Identification of these large areas is important in statewide agricultural planning and has value in interstate, regional, and national planning. North Carolina extends across six MLRAs.
